Dental veneers
in Panama

Dental veneers represent an evolution in smile design treatments, as they improve the esthetic appearance of teeth. They also help correct crooked, broken, gapped, stained and worn teeth.

What are dental veneers?

Basically, speaking of dental veneers or esthetic veneers is to refer to small, very thin pieces, which are adapted to the teeth to achieve a better image of your smile.

These delicate laminates adhere to the outer surface of each tooth and modify its shape, brightness and color, thus masking problems ranging from yellow teeth to cracked or worn teeth.

Type of dental veneers

In particular, there are different types of dental veneers in Panama, which vary according to the material of which they are made, the characteristics of the same and of course, the costs.

Porcelain veneers

Undoubtedly, porcelain veneers offer better quality and longer life than other materials, which generates a great demand for them among patients. They are made of injected porcelain, which makes them more resistant. In addition, for their placement it is not necessary to file or modify the shape of the tooth, so, beyond a slight contour in some pieces, they do not degrade the dental enamel.

Composite veneers

Similarly, composite veneers offer an acceptable esthetic result for the patient's oral cavity, but in reality, their fabrication material makes them less resistant and durable. Basically, they are recommended in two specific cases: when the patient is very young or when the correction procedure is very simple. Finally, an advantage of these esthetic veneers is that they are reversible, which means that no contouring is applied to the teeth and they can be removed without complications.

Zirconium veneers

On the other hand, zirconia veneers maintain the same thickness as porcelain veneers, but last longer over the years. They are bonded to the tooth enamel with a special resin, so it is not necessary to file and cause wear to the tooth. In fact, a distinguishing feature of aesthetic zirconium veneers is that their veneers have a translucent appearance, which helps them blend in and makes them difficult to notice with the naked eye.

Lumineers ultra-thin veneers

Lumineers veneers are an innovative alternative that combines a type of feldspathic porcelain and leucite crystals to achieve much thinner and highly resistant veneers. This type of dental veneers of the latest generation, does not require contouring or filing of the enamel; providing a quick placement, without affecting the integrity of the tooth. Among the most outstanding characteristics of these veneers is their thickness of 0.2 mm, they are more translucent than conventional porcelain and last approximately 15 years (with a 5-year warranty).

Dental veneers placement process

Prior to the placement of dental veneers, a preliminary examination should be made to analyze the state of health of the teeth and gums (if necessary, any pathology should be treated beforehand).

In any case, the specialist should prepare the teeth in advance depending on the type of veneers (i.e. whether or not the enamel needs to be filed). However, all this is achieved in just two appointments:

At the first appointment the specialist examines the mouth, teeth and gums. Where applicable, you should contour the front and lateral tooth surface to help create a rough space to facilitate veneer bonding. Then the complete mold of the tooth structure is made, which will allow the fabrication of perfectly adapted veneers to the size of each patient's tooth.

Finally, temporary acrylic veneers are placed for about 5 days (while the permanent ones are being fabricated). The exact color of the veneer is also chosen during this appointment.

At the second appointment, the dentist removes the temporary veneers and verifies the result of the permanent veneers. If everything goes according to plan, the placement process begins with a thorough disinfection of the teeth to eliminate any bacteria.

Next, the dental cement is placed and the veneers are fixed to the teeth using a beam of ultraviolet light that dries the cement quickly. Finally, the specialist cleans and rinses the mouth.

Frequently Asked Questions

In this group of questions and answers you can learn a little more about dental veneers and clarify your doubts.

Although uncommon, there are risks and other factors that limit the use of dental veneers in some people; among them:

  • The placement of esthetic veneers is not recommended if the teeth are too broken, pigmented or stained, and even less if the patient suffers from bruxism. In these cases, dental crowns are a better choice.
  • They may be contraindicated if there is a dental malocclusion, which must be previously treated by an orthodontist.
  • If they are placed by an inexperienced specialist, diseases such as caries, gingivitis and other oral pathologies may appear.
  • If the patient's teeth are very large, it is sometimes best not to place them. Even the thinnest veneers can produce shock and fractures in the future.

The duration of each veneer will depend on the care and hygiene that each patient provides to his or her mouth.

Even so, composite veneers last between 7 and 10 years, porcelain veneers last between 10 and 15 years, while Lumineers last up to 30 years with proper care.

That is why porcelain veneers are one of the main options on the market today, since they provide a better presentation for longer.

The use of dental veneers is discouraged in patients whose enamel does not have enough dentin, which results in a weakened structure. The placement of esthetic veneers is also not recommended if the tooth has a very serious fracture.

Finally, given the condition of bruxist patients, it is difficult to maintain veneers on the teeth without causing more harm than good.

We want you to have a fabulous smile and that is why our clinic offers various treatments that will help you look the way you want. We specialize in the placement of porcelain veneers, where you will have options to suit your condition (ultra-thin, zirconia and feldspathic).
